Why did the spencer rifle go out of service?

Question: like why don't they still use the spencer rifle in the military? It's a good weapon, i really don't see the peoblem! just cause somethings 150 years old doesn't mean they shouldn't still use it! I think it should become the standard infantrymans rifle, wht do you think? Like with the .56-45 cartridge?

Answer: It was a seven shot lever action. Even as a lever action it was slower to operate than the Henry Repeating Rifle. As an infantryman's rifle, compared to a select fire semi auto rifle, like the M-4, it does not even get into the ball park. You can still get the Spencer. I think either Uberti or Pederosoli makes a reproduction model.
