Why is nylon elastic and abrasive resistant?

Question: This is for a chemistry assignment. I can't find anything on the internet that's helpful. We're doing an essay on polymers and I chose to do nylon - 6,6. I can't quite figure out why nylon is elastic, abrasive resistant and why it doesn't absorb water well. Thanks/ :)

Answer: Nylon is elastic because the bonded molecules form a zigzag or helical path rather than a straight line. These wiggles can straighten out somewhat under tension. Because the surface is smooth, it resists abrasion.
